HOP across the border- and we are in Italy

Tolmin is located at the most western part of Slovenia, right next to the Italian border. The closest border crossing is only a couple of kilometers on the top of Kolovrat (the hill, spanned on the right bank of the Soca River). To visit the shores and the beaches of the Adriatic Sea, we usually take the road past Nova Gorica, and to visit Cividale del Friuli or Udine we should pass Kobarid and Robič border crossing. The nearby Italian cities are all a good idea for halfday or daytrips. Also suitable for couples/families.

Udine

Udine, Venetian cultural heritage and beautiful town center

In NE Italy, near the border with Slovenia, you can find the beautiful town of Udine, whose beginnings date back to the time of the Romans. Today, the city is famous for its opulent Venetian architecture, which is most evident in Piazza Libertà, which is said to be the most beautiful Venetian square outside of Venice. No less attractive is Piazza Matteotti, famous for its many beautiful arcades. Among the main attractions of the city are the castle, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city itself and the surrounding mountains, the cathedral (Duomo), Loggia del Lionello, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Museo d`Arte Moderna e Contemporanea), the Archaeological Museum (Museo Archelogico ), Diocesan Museum (Museo Diocesano), Arco Bollani triumphal arch and Valvason Morpurgo Palace. The city also offers numerous opportunities for shopping and dining in numerous wine bars and restaurants.
Access: Drive to Kobarid, where you continue driving to the Robič border crossing. After crossing the border, continue driving on the main road straight through Čedad (Cividale del Friuli) and follow the signs for Videm (Udine).
